Park Seo-Bo On View at White Cube West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach, 25 February – 1 April, 2023

White Cube West Palm Beach is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Park Seo-Bo, an artist widely considered one of the leading figures in contemporary Korean art and credited as being the father of the ‘Dansaekhwa’ movement.

Park Seo-Bo, born in 1931 in Yecheon, Gyeongbuk, is a pioneering figure in the Korean art world. His art, profoundly shaped by the Korean War and the philosophy of Taoism and Buddhism, embraces spirituality and time, space, and material. His groundbreaking ‘Ecriture’ series, started in the late 1960s, features pencil lines incised into a still-wet monochromatic painted surface and later explored hanji, a traditional Korean paper hand-made from mulberry bark, as well as the introduction of color. Park’s works have come to epitomize the unique trajectory of Korea’s post-war art and culture, and his influence is still seen today.
