A Matter of Perspective

The Lechner Museum presents the exhibition A Matter of Perception from October 19, 2025, to April 12, 2026. As part of the anniversary year “Alf Lechner 100,” the work of the German artist is placed in dialogue with international positions. The focus is on the aesthetic and societal dimensions of material, exploring the relationship between form, production, and matter.

The exhibition brings together works by artists such as Phyllida Barlow, Donald Judd, Richard Serra, Agnes Martin, and others who shaped the post-war avant-garde through the 1980s. At its core is the radical redefinition of material and space, marked by a departure from traditional representational forms toward an art of materiality and physical presence. The diverse approaches range from rigor and seriality to instability and spatial interaction, highlighting the movement’s rich complexity.

The exhibition invites audiences to experience art not only visually but also intellectually and sensorially, placing material itself at the center of artistic exploration.
