Land Lounge Chair by Naoto Fukasawa

The Land Lounge Chair, designed by renowned Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, is an extension of the Outdoor Collection by Italian furniture manufacturer Plank.

The design’s key challenge was to develop an impressive yet essential geometry while keeping the manufacturing process to a minimum. Fukasawa’s goal was to create a low, slightly inclined seat that promotes a relaxed posture – with legs outstretched and back supported. This approach reflects Fukasawa’s philosophy of integrating user behavior into his designs to create products that fit into people’s everyday lives.

His understated but striking design immediately catches the eye. It successfully combines sharp, clean lines with an organic, gentle style, giving it a pared-down yet impressive appearance. The chair is made using the rotational molding process. This process involves pouring molten material evenly into a mold where it is then distributed and hardened by spinning and it is available in a palette of colors. This ranges from plain black and white to muted basalt gray and signal gray, to vibrant traffic red and yellow-green.
